How birthday rarity is ranked
We add up every US birth on each calendar date from 1994 to 2014: CDC records for 1994 to 1999 and Social Security records for 2000 to 2014, so no year is counted twice. Then we rank all 366 dates by that total, from #1 (the most babies) to #366 (the fewest).
Ranking by the total means the list shows how many people actually share each birthday. That is why February 29 is always last: it only comes once every four years.
The differences are real but small for most dates. The big outliers are holidays such as December 25, January 1 and July 4, which have far fewer births than the days around them. Worked example
March 21 had 235,883 US births across the 21 years, about 11,233 a year. That puts it at #149 of 366: about average, and a little more common than most dates.
