How the countdown works
The countdown always points at the next birthday: this year's if it is still ahead, otherwise next year's. It counts down to midnight at the start of that day in the time zone of the device showing it, and updates every second.
The name, date and colors are stored in the link, so the share link and the embed show exactly what you made. When the year is included, the countdown also shows the age being turned.
For February 29 birthdays, the countdown runs to February 28 in years that are not leap years.

Worked example
Made for Sam on October 2, 2026 with the birthday March 21. The countdown runs to midnight at the start of Sunday, March 21, 2027: about 169 days and some hours, ticking down every second. On March 21 it shows "Happy birthday, Sam!" with confetti and fireworks all day.
Three ways to use it
At the party
Open it on a laptop or TV and choose Full screen. The numbers grow to fill the screen.
In the group chat
Copy the share link and send it on WhatsApp, iMessage or any chat app, or add it to an Instagram story with a link sticker. Everyone who opens it sees the countdown in their own time zone.
On your site
Get the embed code and paste it into a blog post, class page or club website.
Birthday Countdown questions
How do I make a birthday countdown with a name?
Type the name and the birthday, then choose Start the countdown. The year is optional: add it to show the age they turn. Copy the share link to send it to friends and family.
Can I show the countdown full screen?
Yes. Choose Full screen under the countdown, and press Esc or Exit full screen to leave. On iPhone, where browsers cannot show part of a page full screen, open the share link and turn the phone sideways.
Can I put the countdown on my website or blog?
Yes. Choose Get embed code and paste the code into any page that accepts HTML. The embedded countdown keeps running on its own.
Which time zone does the countdown use?
Each viewer's own. The countdown runs to midnight at the start of the birthday on the device showing it, so a friend in another time zone sees their local countdown.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
The countdown turns into a happy birthday screen with confetti and fireworks for the whole day. The next day it starts counting down to the following birthday.
Is the name stored anywhere?
No. The name and date live only in the link itself. Nothing is saved on our server and no account is needed.
