How the days are counted
The tool finds your next birthday: this year's, if it has not passed yet, or next year's. Then it counts the calendar days from today to that date. Today comes from your device, so the answer is right wherever you are.
The months and days figure is counted on the real calendar, month by month, not as an average of 30 days. The live countdown runs to midnight at the start of your birthday in your time zone.
If you were born on February 29, your birthday counts on February 28 in years that are not leap years.

Worked example
Today is October 2, 2026 and your birthday is March 21. Your next birthday is Sunday, March 21, 2027. That is 170 days away: 5 months and 19 days (October 2 to March 2, then March 2 to March 21), or 24 weeks and 2 days.
How to count the days until your birthday by hand
- Count the days left in the current month, after today.
- Add the full length of every month in between (30 or 31 days, and 28 or 29 for February).
- Add the day of the month of your birthday. The total is the number of days to go.
- If your birthday has already passed this year, do the same count to next year's birthday.

Do I need to enter my birth year?
No. The month and day are enough to count the days. Add the year if you want to see the age you will turn.
Does today count if it is my birthday?
Yes. On your birthday the answer is "today", and the count to your next birthday starts again the day after.
How many sleeps until my birthday?
The number of sleeps is the same as the number of days: one sleep for each night between now and the morning of your birthday.
What if my birthday is February 29?
In leap years the countdown runs to February 29. In other years it runs to February 28, and the page shows a short note when this happens.
